Creating The Plane

Born April 16, 1867

Wilbur was born on April 16, 1867 in Millville, Indiana. As a child, he was intuitive and curious, and did well in school. When he was a young boy, he was hit in the head with a hockey puck while playing roller hockey and became very reclusive. He continued onto highschool, though he never recieved a diploma for his efforts. He soon joined his brother at his small publishing company, and improved the company by making minor tweaks to their printing press, making it faster and more efficient. The two maintained the press for a few years, before turning to a more current trade, and opening a bicycle shop. The started producing their own type of bike, which was slightly higher end than  most others of that time period. After a few more years, Wilbur decided to leave the company to pursue more aviation related fields of studies.  He wrote many letters to various pilots and inventors, and became well known in the aviation world. His brother joined him about this point, and together they took the final steps towards flight. After their succesfull tests, (See the Test Flight section under Creating The Airplane for a video) they became world known inventors, and purchased a property they called Hawthorne hill to study and live in. Wilbur died before its construction was complete, in the spring of 1912.
